Mission Statement

 

Wheel Solutions' purpose is to provide bicycle repair or replacement to Merced's homeless population in order to give them the mobility needed to overcome the barriers of poverty.

 

History

 

Wheel Solutions started the day I pulled a bicycle out of a dumpster, repaired it and gave it to a homeless man that needed basic transportation.  After repairing a few of the homeless' flat tires, on the sidewalk, in downtown Merced, I started looking for a location to help the homeless repair their bicycles.  In April 2010 a group of concerned citizens met to choose a project to help the homeless.  They choose the bicycle project.  Several people from that meeting volunteered to make this project happen.     

 

 

I spent an entire day on my bicycle riding around Merced with a man who was living at the homeless shelter.  He was handing out resumes and looking for low income housing.  He would not have been able to do this without his bicycle.  Was he successful?  Absolutely!  He now has a job and his own apartment.
